Corn Harvest

This afternoon the children skipped over to the polytunnel to help harvest corn they’ve watched grow from

tiny seedlings. After uprooting them the children as a team carried whole plants out to the gravel area then discussed, looked, and felt the roots of the corn that helped it grow whilst keeping its stalk upright.

The children then helped to rip the corn cobs from the stalks, once all the corn cobs were removed, we played pass the parcel. With music playing the children passed the corn around the circle, unwrapping the corn cobs one layer at a time each time the music stopped. Once we had fully unwrapped the corn, we placed it in a bowl for John to cook.

The children were delighted to try their self-picked sweet corn eating it off the cob with their group for an afternoon snack.
